TikTok's Growth in 2019 is Crazy

It has to be said: TikTok had a phenomenal 2019.

Whilst the app seemed to come out of nowhere in 2019, it has actually existed since 2016 as Douyin in China, and in 2018 merged with Musical.ly to launch into the USA.

But 2019 was really where things kicked off.

3 Crazy Stats

Let's start off by looking at 3 crazy stats.

1. TikTok has 800 million monthly active users.

2. TikTok has 1.5 billion downloads on the App Store and Google Play.

3. 41% of users are aged 16-24.

So its got a huge audience, and that audience is largely very young.

Why the Success?

But why is TikTok doing so well?

We think its because of the short form video style. This style, in which each second is 15 seconds or less, is great for TikTok's success for two reasons:

1. It's Addicting

Short videos are great for keeping people on a platform, because they encourage the just one more mentality.

Don't know what I'm talking about? Of course you do!

Ever got stuck scrolling through content on Facebook, Instagram or perhaps TikTok before, for hours? Before you know it, it's 2am and you need to sleep.

TikTok videos are so addicting because they're short and sweet. Each video you get a small release of endorphins, usually because the video is funny.

And the videos autoplay as you scroll, so its so easy to keep on scrolling.

This keeps using watching more and more content, which organically grows the app over time.

2. It inspires creativity

Young people love creativity. In fact, we're most creative when we're young.

This creativity slowly tailors off as we get older.

Short form videos really don't leave much time to get your point accross, show your dancing skills, or generally make your video interesting.

This means TikTok videos are usually very creating in trying to grab people's attention.

Whether its a prank, a skill, or a singing video... short, sharp and creative always wins on TikTok, due to the younger audience.

Growth for TikTok = Growth for You

The best part about having an up-and-coming platform like TikTok is that it represents an opportunity for users to grow their presence as the platform grows.
